Bunnies

Prior to rescuing the Russia Dwarf hamsters, I heard about someone being evicted from their apartment and they were leaving a rabbit behind. We went and picked her up and brought Chimera home. She is a black dwarf bunny with a white nose. She loves my cattle dog, Persephone. They used to have the run of the house together when we lived in Dundee, IL, they even slept together. We've had her 5 years, she is 8 or 9 now. In July, 2022 she had a false pregnancy that cost $250 in vet fees to find out what it was....silly bunny!

We adopted a small lop eared male bunny in November of 2019. We realized he had some possible neurological issues, maybe from a bump on his head when he was tiny, and the vet confirmed it. Sadly we only had him about a month and he passed away.

A few months later there was a post about a bunny needing a home. So we met Camilla! She was 8 weeks old. A Brown Rex bunny.

Camilla and Chimera live in a bedroom in two large cages. The cats often climb in and hang out with them. Our next project I hope is to build an outdoor bunny area next to the house. The plan is to have small individual huts in a row, with efficient climate control, and a 6 foot tall fence for easy entry. The enclosure will also need snake netting on the bottom and wire over the top to keep predators out. I hope to make it 15’ x 20’ with some raised garden beds to grow rabbit food. Then we will be set to take in another bunny or two that needs a home.
