Malva

The first kitty we adopted here in New Mexico is Malva!

Malva came to us through Bridges To Home Feb. 16, 2020. One day after my birthday.

She was 10 months old, feline leukemia positive (FELV) and her siblings had all perished.

We had started fostering other critters and we had dogs who were permanent residents

and I wanted to introduce a cat, hoping all of them would get along.

I've had cat friends since I was 11. So when Malva came up needing a foster we gave it a go.

Malva came in, showed no fear, and took over the household and every one in it.

She was mischievous, spunky, sassy, funny, playful, and cuddly. For as long as I can

remember she slept under the covers next to me, summer or winter.

My son was smitten, asked the vet about FELV, then did some online research and

then asked if we could adopt her. He said he wanted to love her for as long as she had to live.

FELV cats are often given a 1 to 3 year life expectancy once diagnosed.

Malva settled right in, we decided to search for a FELV + playmate for her and that is

how we became a FELV cat sanctuary. Cats are addicting!

Malva lived here till October 9, 2022. She welcomed every resident we've had.

Gotten along with most all, and brought so much joy to us with her dark, crystal, blue eyes,

and her charm.

She passed in my arms in the wee hours of the morning after falling severely anemic

and being unable to bounce back.

I miss her dearly; she took a big chunk of my heart with her that will never be whole again.

However, she wasn't the first to take a chunk and she won't be the last. But she deserves

the credit for every cat that has spent or will spend time here with us.

Please help us honor Malva’s memory by donating, even just a few dollars, to help

our special needs critters!

Thank you! Emi's Heart.
