Soma & Soul

My son, Ian and I volunteered for Fur Keeps Rescue in Hoffman  Estates, IL.  Fur Keeps places cats in PetSmart that are adoptable.   Volunteers clean, feed and socialize the cats at PetSmart.  We did that for over 2 years.  

PetSmart often gets small critters to sell that are damaged in shipping.  If they can save them they try.  If they are not able to sell them, they are offered to staff and family of staff. Since we volunteered we were allowed to adopt 2 little female Russia Dwarf hamsters. Each had one back leg amputated that had been damaged in shipping. 

Ian named them Soma and Soul.  

We had them for about 3 years.   We brought them with us when we moved from Illinois to New Mexico. We camped with them. They stayed at hotels with us.  

Each passed away about 5 months apart.  My son paid hundreds of dollars on vet care.  Both are lying peacefully in my pet cemetery here on our land.
